Corrine Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On

Polite and genial, she turns this track into a puppy dog lusciously cute with little bite

Single Review by Billy Hamilton | 17 Mar 2006
Single title: Put Your Records On
Artist: Corrine Bailey Rae
Label: EMI Records

Corrine Bailey Rae is the BBC's much revered 'Sound of 2006' and judging by 'Put your Records On' it's easy to see why. This track is the quintessential essence of 'Auntie Beeb' with its mass appeal and inherent safety. Rae's vocals are sleek and soothing, preening herself like a British Jill Scott over a summertime melody. Lacking in real ingenuity, this could easily have been another prosaic R'n'B track but Rae's stylish etiquette brings a sprinkle of zeal to the occasion. Polite and genial, she turns this track into a puppy dog, lusciously cute with little bite. [Billy Hamilton]
