Cheatahs - Warrior/Minotaur

Lo-fi noise-pop from London solo artist.

Single Review by Lauren Mayberry | 29 Jun 2009
Single title: Warrior/Minotaur
Artist: Cheatahs
Label: Young & Lost
Release date: 29 June

Described as a lo-fi noise-pop solo project, Warrior is a pleasant burst of sounds, with simple rhythms and understated vocals creating a strangely melancholic yet upbeat feel. Created by amplifying acoustic guitar through Garageband, this single is strangely unpretentious, with an undeniably homemade feel. However, the messy effect left over by the recording method which is quaint to some could be irritating to others. The guitars are sometimes muffled and obscured, leaving a Wavves-style puddle of sound in their wake. This is a shame, with vocals hinting at some gentle Elliott Smith tendencies rendered sadly difficult to decipher due to production quality.
