Ardentjohn - Orange Nights

Displays a versatility that can only mean good things

Single Review by Finbarr Bermingham | 10 Jul 2007
Single title: Orange Nights
Artist: Ardentjohn
Label: Self Released

Fresh from giving the headline acts a run for their money at Leith Sessions, Ardentjohn's second release will do their swelling local reputations no harm at all. Sounding a bit like Elbow on holiday, Orange Nights is an infectious, jangly acoustic number that begs you to crack open a cold one, kick back and enjoy the summer. Its "the sunshine man is here" refrain, sung in charming falsetto, has the parasitic quality to lie in your brain for days. It's a more chilled effort than lively debut single Legoland Towns, highlighting a versatility that can only mean good things. [Finbarr Bermingham]

Out now as digital download.
Ardentjohn play The Lot, Edinburgh on 26 July and Oran Mor, Glasgow on 3 Aug.
