30 Seconds to Mars - From Yesterday

Nothing here to excite or intrigue; but some people like that.

Single title: From Yesterday
Artist: 30 Seconds to Mars
Label: Virgin
A combination of fiercely predictable rock songs and vocals courtesy of actor Jared Leto seems enough to secure at least commercial success for 30 Seconds to Mars. Delay on the opening guitar track slides From Yesterday gently into the gravely sincere verse pattern, from where it is a simple matter of time before the guitars get louder, the drums faster and the vocals higher…then start again. The line "from yesterday" is, of course, sung a lot, and there's a notable plagiarism in the form of KT Tunstall's patented '[his] face is a map of the world,' which Leto was obviously so happy with he uses five times. Yes, yes, there really is nothing here to excite or intrigue; but some people like that. And they're welcome to it. [Jamie Borthwick]
