12 Stone Toddler - Twang

Don't be fooled by the large lime-green lettering on the cover – this isn't the latest release by The Twang, but rather a slightly weird fairground-rock stomp from Brighton's 12 Stone Toddler. The fact that they've stolen the guitar break from R.E.M.'s I Am Superman and stretched it out to breaking point doesn't detract from its curiously upbeat appeal, and they end up sounding like Supergrass covering The Blues Brothers. Bouncy, quirky and refreshingly different, it does have a certain twang, even if it's not The Twang. [Dan Coxon]
