Union of Knives - Operated On EP

There must be a sensor buried deep in my brain that tells me not to like electronic pop. Perhaps as a child of the 80s, the exposure to Erasure and Pet Shop Boys left lasting trauma, which is why listening to Glasgow based Union of Knives' new EP is a confusing experience. The brain says no, but the ears say yes. The truth is that their take on synth-pop is just dark and inventive enough to banish memories of late 80s crew-cutted cheese-bots. It might be over-polished, but UoK balance dirty breaks and fragile guitars perfectly on tracks like 'Every Treasure'. [Nick Mitchell]
