Tusks - TUSK EP
Indie rock looks better with edges and corners and bits that stick out at awkward angles. It's a fact. It keeps the fairly modest, unassuming landscape of that genre interesting and prevents the music from turning stagnant. Unfortunately TUSK falls just short of the requisite number of intriguing geographical features to be exciting. Songs like Baby Noise and Man's Best Friends cheerfully roll along like summer hillsides but frankly get a little boring, becoming competent exercises in a genre already engorged with so-so records. Suitably MOR enough to avoid offending all but the most anally retentive sensibilities, Toronto's Tusks could at least do well in the teen drama soundtrack market. Hopefully they'll endeavour to be a little more adventurous on future outings.
