Sons of Noel and Adrian - Rivers EP

Single Review by Stephen Toman | 17 Jul 2009
Single title: Rivers EP
Artist: Sons of Noel and Adrian
Label: One Inch Badge Records
Release date: July 2009

So perfectly crafted are the three songs on this limited EP that it is hard to believe it was recorded by twelve people. While other modern ‘folk’ bands play bland indie-pop in the style of Irish pub bands, Sons of Noel and Adrian create a dark, noir-ish ambience of scraping, haunting strings in which the multi-tracked late-night vocals and guitars exist. Plucked acoustics play circling, repetitious passages, occasionally emphasised by a solid thump of percussion and selective female harmonies. Sons of Noel and Adrian have achieved the remarkable feat of assembling so many musicians who contribute only what the song requires, adding to the already solid guitars and vocals without ever dominating. Noel and Adrian should be proud of their children.

Release date: July 2009, available from www.southern.net as 7" limited to 300 copies worldwide.
