Classical influences with an interesting modern twist.

Sometimes when you use the word ‘operatic’, people look at you suspiciously, as if they expect you to start talking about La Bohème and foie gras. Yet sometimes, the word can be enjoyed by the regular layman, as Society of Imaginary Friends aim to show with The Moors EP. Led by rich female vocals with obvious classical roots, SOIF create a darkly emotive and ethereal sound. Although the male backing vocals are at times a little distracting, the band’s magical, Tolkien-reminiscent songs are well orchestrated and portentously poetic. An interesting listen for those in search of something a little different. [Lauren Mayberry]
