Huoratron – Prevenge EP

Finnish producer Huoratron (aka Aku Raski) makes his UK bow with this alternately pounding and oblique EP. The Last Gang label is responsible for some interesting acts like Metric and Crystal Castles, and while this won't have as big an impact, it's certainly worth banging your head to as a pre-club warm up or after hours reprise. Squelchy acid synths are here, along with crunching beats and Game Boy noises (apparently a hangover from Raski's early days as a sonic terrorist).

If you like Aphex but bemoan his farther-out tendencies this may well be for you. It would be interesting to see what he does with a full-length project, and it seems there's one coming down the pipeline in early 2011. Until then if he comes to a club space near you it's a safe bet he will destroy the room and kill everyone inside. Metaphorically speaking of course. [David McNally]
