Digitonal - Silver Poetry EP

Save Your Light For Darker Days, Digitonal’s previous full-length offering, was pretty, if not exactly bristling with dynamism. The band have since set about changing their sound, and the opening title track addresses criticism of their previous work with cliffhanger strings and a satisfying pique of DJ Shadow-accented percussion. The remainder of the EP disappointingly fizzles out into a guileless malaise that shouldn’t be mistaken for ambience, with the reverberating industrial chug of 93 Years On proving an especially soporific effort. Sure, it's not a plod, but that in itself would have implied some fathomable sense of direction. [Ray Philp]
