Cogwheel Dogs - Greenhorn EP

Single Review by Ewen Millar | 27 Jul 2009
Single title: Greenhorn EP
Artist: Cogwheel Dogs
Label: Self-Released
Release date: 3 Aug

Cogwheel Dogs are one of those bands that surely revels in the fact that their music is schizophrenic. Singer Rebecca Mosley is the ‘straight man’, playing guitar and flitting between tender melodies and PJ Harvey-esque growling while cello-player Tom Parnell twitches away in the background, littering the music with spasmodic episodes of frantic, screeching cello which seems akin to gleefully taking a chainsaw to a bowl of trifle at a childrens party. Whether such an out-of-place act would spoil your fun or liven up the party will no doubt dictate the measure of enjoyment you take away from the Greenhorn EP, but with the flabbergasting number of awful sanitised singer-songwriter nonsense out there, it's nice to hear someone taking a risk.
