Single title: 28 Days EP
Artist: Cassette Electrik
Label: white label
Release date: 4 Aug

Cassette Electrik are an 80s-influenced electro-pop act who look set to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Goldfrapp into the lucrative pop market. This EP feels a little skimpy, with one track done five times over, and a bizarre cover of Depeche Mode's New Life thrown in. Chanteuse Lucy Bugiel and programmer Oli Freke wear their influences unashamedly on their sleeves, and having supported the likes of the Human League on the Dare 2007 tour, there's strong elements of that eighties sound present. On 28 Days, Bugiel seems to pinch her melodies from a vareity of other sources, most obviously, a Texas tune. The last mix of the four is an Underworld-esque acid jam which works best of all and is worthy of you attention, though New Life should have been left back in the 80s, or at least given a re-jig that could have escaped the shadow of the bland original. Cassette Electrick should stick to producing their own music, they've certainly got the potential, though if they'd covered something halfway decent, they'd have a monster hit.
