Beatnic Prestige - Beatnic Prestige EP

Single Review by Chris Buckle | 27 Mar 2009
Single title: Beatnic Prestige EP
Artist: Beatnic Prestige
Label: Self-released
Release date: Out Now

Beatnic Prestige write straightforward mod-indie choons presumably aimed at those who felt Paul Weller’s Brit Award win for British Solo Artist this year was an inspired recognition of cutting-edge talent. They certainly know their way round a tune, but so do Ocean Colour Scene, The Rifles, The Enemy, The View, Sergeant and a million other ideas-bereft mediocrities currently singing from the same hymn sheet. Aligning Beatnic Prestige with the successful but bland is probably damning them with faint praise, but on the strength of these four tracks that’s as much as they currently warrant - or, in the case of the sentimental ‘times are tough but we’ll get by’ acoustic ‘anthem’ Charlie Brown, perhaps a tad too much.
