Youthmovies - Good Nature

Good Nature covers more ground over ten tracks than many a band clears in a lifespan

Album title: Good Nature
Artist: Youthmovies
Label: DiS
Good Nature has been five years in the offing. This was not, Youthmovies recently assured us, due to any dearth in creative output. A single spin of their debut album renders the very suggestion ludicrous: they cover more ground over ten tracks than many a band clears in a lifespan. The Naughtiest Girl is a Monitor is a splendid concoction of new wave and electro. Weighing in at under five minutes, it's a logical choice as lead single. The prog quartet to follow showcases Youthmovies' extravagant and indulgent side – what ultimately distinguishes them from many of their peers. The relentless metal tinged brace Soandso & Soandso and Last Night at the Proms are matched in proficiency by the more contemporary Cannuca (an outstanding highlight) and If You'd Seen a Battlefield sums up all that is good about this band. They'll confuse you, entertain you, make you tap your toe and scratch your head. But they certainly won't become a bore. [Finbarr Bermingham]
