Thursday - A City By The Light Divided

Best left to angry grounded teenagers

Album Review by Suzanne Mitchell | 15 Jul 2006
Album title: A City By The Light Divided
Artist: Thursday
Label: Hassle
The fourth album from New Jersey emo rockers Thursday is one of those that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Frontman Geoff Rickly's vocals are probably supposed to sound emotional and frustrated, but come across as whiny and desperate. On At This Velocity, he tries to pull off some credible screamo but ends up sounding like he's yelling because he's stubbed his toe. The thundering drums and heavy guitar riffs almost disguise the fact that they have absolutely no original arrangements; resulting in each song sounding like the last. This album is possibly best left to angry teenagers to listen to when they lock themselves in their bedroom after being grounded. [suzanne mitchell]
