The Presets - Beams

Are You The One? and the forthcoming Down, Down, Down are bound for aggressive, classic floor-molester status

Album title: Beams
Artist: The Presets
Label: Modular
The Australians are retaliating. I don't know what is feeding their rebellion but it tastes good so I'm not arguing. Fresh off a tour with fellow Modular up-risers Wolfmother, The Presets deliver a debut that is destined to please a growing Optimo crowd. The Duo formed in 2003 to create a sound – described by themselves as "Spazzzdancefagrock" – that ranges from industrial electro-clash via sleazy disco to laid-back electro-house. 'Beams' is definitely not anything to put on in the background while cooking a bouillabaisse for you and your missus. No, current single Are You The One? and the forthcoming Down, Down, Down are bound for aggressive, classic floor-molester status, while Girl (You Chew My Mind Up) stands out with a heavy Dancehall vibe that deserves plenty of attention from your mind and feet. Definitely a fresh contribution to the James Murphy (DFA, LCD Soundsystem) school. [Chris Nordeng]
