The Owsley Sunshine - Watermelon

Endlessly inventive but never conceited, these guys are heading places for sure

Album title: Watermelon
Artist: The Owsley Sunshine
Label: Self Released
I's been a long, long time since pop-rock kicked this much ass. I have no idea what owsley sunshine is, but it must be sublime to bathe in. Life is great again. Apart from the gorgeous melodies, funny but kind of poignant lyrics, expert use of sax, organs and mellotron along with the usual noise makers, it's the arrangements and song writing that stands out. Endlessly inventive but never conceited, these guys are heading places for sure. Yeah it's retro, but these guys make retro sound like the future purely on the strength of being awesome. This is probably best avoided unless you don't mind having a lot of your current record collection being made redundant. [Ali Maloney]
