The Needles - In Search Of The Needles

the moment you're pricked by the smouldering sound of The Needles you'll be hooked forever

Album Review by Billy Hamilton | 14 Aug 2006
Album title: In Search Of The Needles
Artist: The Needles
Label: Dangerous

The Needles are like an intravenous shot of adrenaline. Buzzing with high-octane power pop, it's surprising this Aberdonian quartet's debut LP has taken almost a decade to release. But my god, is 'In Search Of The Needles' worth the wait. Combining the song writing sensibility of Elvis Costello with the sheer incessancy of The Buzzcocks, this is a deliciously crafted record full of infectious melody and spiky riffs. Unable to stand still, it revisits the harmonious simplicity of The Beach Boys on the wondrous Poison Ivy before furiously seething with the rugged new-wave aggression of Delivery Day. And that's the beauty of this album; it refuses to be pigeonholed. It can be brutal, it can be beautiful, but it's always compelling. It may have taken years to develop, but, mark my words, the moment you're pricked by the smouldering sound of The Needles you'll be hooked forever. [Billy Hamilton]

In Search Of The Needles' is out on September 4.
