The Count & Sinden – Mega Mega Remix

Album Review by Ray Philp | 28 Jul 2011
Album title: Mega Mega Remix
Artist: The Count & Sinden
Label: Domino
Release date: 1 Aug

Mega Mega Remix strikes as a particularly masochistic record for The Count & Sinden (or their label?) to commission: though a patchy affair, Mega Mega Remix manages to improve upon much of the source material simply by paring things down. Sirens and psuedo-ethnic touches ('Llamame' being an egregious example) are pruned to accommodate some breathing space; Kalbata's languid, low-end house remix of Roll Out, for example, is a considerable upgrade on the Major Lazer-lite original. As is the lot of every other remix album ever made, much of what remains is either phoned in or inessential. The Count & Sinden's treatment of Mega is a remix in name only, while Lone's contribution to proceedings, the warehouse rave refit of Addicted, is another retread of the same song he's been making since Fantasy Emerald Tracks. Mega Mega Remix is not a pointless record, but it's not important enough either.
