Album title: Almost Here
Artist: The Academy Is...
Label: Fueled by Ramen
When they review the debut/What if the critics hate you? sing The Academy Is... on Black Mamba. It's like they had a crystal ball. "Oh Mr Magazine/Never wrote one single thing for you or your so-called music scene/You don't mean a thing to me." Which is handy, because this sucks. I never thought there could be a poor imitation of pop-rock-punk, but here it is. Some under-fourteens who are yet to discover Blink 182 or The Offspring may like this, but really the lyrics are trite in the extreme – clichés and personal experience strung together to give a muddled image of American teenage angst we've been shown a million times before, and everything else is whiney guitar drivel. The concert might be okay – if you're smashed on cheap cider and abhor any creativity or depth in your music.
This album is released on Feb 8.
