TAAHLIAH – Gramarye
Glasgow’s TAAHLIAH returns with her debut album Gramarye, blending euphoric pop ballads and songwriting with tantalising club beats
While TAAHLIAH's 2021 award-winning Angelica EP focused on her physicality, channelling hyperpop production into its seven tracks, on Gramayre, the Glasgow-based artist showcases her artistic maturity. Blending glamour, emotive music-making, and vulnerability through pop-driven motifs, she's crafted an 11-track sonic soliloquy cathartically guiding listeners from the intensity of a 4am club to the reflective calm of the morning after, offering a cushioned comedown that feels intimate and relatable.
Opening with Lachrymose, the iconic voice of Octavia St. Laurent echoes 'Don’t fuck with me' amidst glittering synths and euphoric strings, creating an atmosphere that lingers long after the track fades. On 2018, the hypnotic vocals of longtime collaborator naafi, alongside contributions from Dev Hynes and Tsatsamis, heighten the emotional depth of the track, capturing the bittersweet nostalgia of mid-20s heartache.
Eylvue's stabbing synths and bass, paired with pitched-up sampled vocals repeating 'I love you', crunch into an infectiously dark club track. In contrast, Angel blends naafi's and TAAHLIAH’s vocals into a beguiling melody, with the refrain 'Soft like an angel' crooning brightly throughout. Gramarye is a testament to TAAHLIAH’s ability to balance romantic introspection with intricate songwriting, delivering an album glowing with artistry, showcasing TAAHLIAH in her truest form.
