Album title: Stateless
Artist: Stateless
Label: !K7
After touring and collaborating with DJ Shadow for his 2006 Outsider album, Stateless lead singer Chris James has led the five-piece Leeds band to the production of a truly exciting album - an uncompromising blend of dreamy yet soulful, epic yet intimate, musical innovations. The incredibly mature production value to this album will stand the band in good stead for future ventures. Songs like Exit instantly grab the attention, with a multi-layered amalgamation of cinematic strings and crunching beats. Frayed and feverish vocals in the likes of This language, dispense pounding emotion and passion. Fans of Portishead's fractured beatscapes and Radiohead's ruminating fervency will enjoy Stateless for their atmospheric energies and original direction. [Peter Burns]
