My Latest Novel - Wolves

Favourable comparisons to the likes of Belle and Sebastian and The Arcade Fire hardly do justice when describing these original and beautiful melodies

With their unique 'alternative folk-rock' sound, Greenock's MLN have already gained critical acclaim and a loyal following via their rapturous live shows. Their debut album 'Wolves' is poised to usher them towards international success. Crammed with haunting violins, breezy acoustic guitars and four-part harmonies delivered with what some might call panache; it's by no means difficult to see why. The opening epic, Ghost in the Gutter sets the pace with pounding drums and dramatic violins while The Reputation of Ross Francis brings the album to a powerful end. Laden with intricate string arrangements and bookish lyrics about everything from primary school angst to blagging your way into heaven (and unrequited love thrown in for good measure), this is an endearing and enjoyable album to be treasured. Favourable comparisons to the likes of Belle and Sebastian and The Arcade Fire hardly do the band justice when describing these original and beautiful melodies. [Suzanne Mitchell]
