Summer might be over for another year, but thankfully Kodiak Deathbeds have arrived with their self-titled debut album which sounds ripe for soundtracking the turning of the leaves and all else that comes with the Autumnal equinox. Consisting of Black Mountain’s Amber Webber and Cave Singers guitarist Derek Fudesco, the duo peddle the sort of minimal and evocative indie folk that seems to take on a whole new life form during the season of melancholy (read also: Tallest Man On Earth, Bon Iver, Iron & Wine).

On Cross That Line and Never Change, Fudesco’s insouciant fingerpicking curdles around Webber’s precipitous vibrato which sounds like it could crack under the weight of emotion at any given second; her lyrics fraught with regret and remorse. Even if some of the jauntier interstitials might lack the same oomph, there’s still enough here to suggest that this is a dynamic built not just for fall, but all seasons.
