The very words ‘Balearic Beach Session’ bring a chill to the spine. With the number of Ibiza compilations that come out annually, it’s a rare occurrence that any of them are any good at all. Jon Sa Trinxa begins his seige of this years Ibiza chart with an assault as ill-advised as the Charge of The Light Brigade: City Reverb’s Everything Will Be Alright. It sets an ominous tone for the ensuing onslaught. It’s tempting to press the stop button straight away, but perseverance pays off and it all turns into a pretty decent mix. Venturing through hip-hop, electronica, jazz, and of course the odd truly Balearic number, Sa Trinxa hits on a couple of gems along the way. Most notable is the jazz flute take on Trans-Europ Express that Breakout’s Planet Rock presents, though other highlights include Williams’ driving rework of Tangerine Dream's classic Love On A Real Train and Pier Bucci’s delightful Tita. Clearly Sa Trinxa’s done a bit of homework on this one; if only others would do the same.
