Joey Negro & The Sunburst Band - Moving With The Shakers

Album Review by Colin Chapman | 15 Jul 2008
Album title: Moving With The Shakers
Artist: Joey Negro & The Sunburst Band
Label: Z Records
Release date: Out Now

Taking time out from his more chart-friendly production work that has earned him hits with American Dream and Make A Move On Me, Joey Negro serves up a more organic, boogie-driven, disco-funk concoction. Moving With the Shakers features vocalists such as Harlem soul legend Leroy Burgess, Diane Charlemagne and Chaka Khan's sister, Taka Boom. There's also vocal contributions from full-time frontman Pete Simpson. Negro takes his production and songwriting inspiration from such acts as Earth, Wind and Fire, D-Train and Maze for this, his Sunburst Band's third album. Sing-along discofied anthems such as Our Lives Our Shaped, Sitting On Top Of The World and Days Gone By, as well as a slinky take on David Bowie's Fashion sit nicely alongside more down-beat instrumentals like Shabadowah, Duskā„¢ and Freebass. There's even room for a handful of slower, more soulful numbers, creating a cohesive whole that's the perfect soundtrack to the summer.[Colin Chapman]
