Album title: 'Long Time Coming'
Artist: Humanzi
Label: Fiction
Humanzi bring to the table all that is currently good and proper if you live your musical life by the gospel according to the commercial British music press. Namely, sharp angular guitars, pounding disco-tinged drumming and rhythmic bass lines, all strung together with the urgency of youth. Humanzi know what they are doing with all this stuff too. They have a brash, infectious sound and the songs have enough hooks and attitude to keep you reeled in. They even manage to get away with ripping off a few bars from the theme from The Word, and their own tune, Help Me In The Morning, which comes over a bit more Duran Duran than is healthy in my eyes. That said, Humanzi are worth checking out. It's just unfortunate that they happen to be ploughing the same furrow as so many other bands right now and I don't think they'll claw their way clear of the bunch. [Dave Reid]
