Hinds – Viva Hinds
The latest from Madrid indie-rockers Hinds, Viva Hinds celebrates life, love, lust, and band survival
Since forming in 2011, Hinds haven't been without their setbacks – members leaving, management changes, and tour revenue loss. Despite this, Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrote return stronger.
Their fourth album opens with 'Hi, How are you?', sultry, mysterious vocals building into childlike screams: 'Lemme shine shine shine, one last time till I go numb!' The album includes an ode to The Cranberries in The Bed, The Room, The Rain and You – a dreamy bedroom pop track imagining solace and longing desire. The punchy Boom Boom Back will get you dancing, urging you to let loose. For the first time, Hinds have recorded two songs entirely in Spanish: Mala Vista (Bad Eyesight) and En Forma (In Shape), with its quick-fire tempo, the duo replicate the whirlwind of anxiety and the onset of a panic attack for women who have to manage so much in this fast-paced world.
Although the tracks lack a clear order, more thought could improve transitions for a cohesive listening experience. Overall, the album expands on the iconic Trippy Gum and Bamboo, showcasing how Cosials' drawl and Perrote’s wailing blend into a beautiful melody you want to sing along to.
