If you could translate work ethic into music then this LP might be a fair result. Absent on a variety of projects for six years, Fridge return to deliver the energy of early post-rock without getting all mathematical. From the opening bars of the eponymous first track, The Sun breathes with life. Although, at times sounding like they've merely been locked in a garage with a selection of instruments from a jumble sale for the duration of their sabbatical, this is no bad thing. It creates an open and strangely sweet selection of tracks. Clocks brings the spine-rocking riffs you want and Sam Jeffers' drumming is openly infectious. The percussion is fairly incessant without becoming cumbersome and you'll be reaching for the nearest object to batter the dust from your sofa with in no time. There could be less free clarinet on Insects, but with The Sun Fridge nevertheless simply draw you in, making you feel welcome and warm. [Chris Bathgate]
