Curt Crackarach – Lonely Holiday

Album Review by Bram E. Gieben | 19 Nov 2012
Album title: Lonely Holiday
Artist: Curt Crackarach
Label: Clan Destine
Release date: 22 Nov

The latest alias of lo-fi pioneer and veteran experimental producer Nattymari, the Curt Crackarach project sees Natty collaborating with a brace of vocalists, on a selection of cuts that run the gamut from the dreamy, psychedelic grooves of opener Above (featuring a laidback rap from Joeyy), to the analogue, echo-chamber funk of Do It In The Park.

There's lounge jazz on the fantastic Rehab (featuring a laconic, beat poetry-influenced verse from Milo Martin), and intense, 1970s-sounding synth themes on Intersteller Hit and Snuggly, not to mention reverb-drenched torch song stylings on closer Lower Depths, featuring Ela Orleans.

A deluxe vinyl with 17 tracks, most clocking in at well below the 3min mark, this is an album jam-packed with ideas and experiments. Given Nattymari's fondness for bitcrushed jams and punishing abstract noise, it's a remarkably tuneful and infectious collection, with a warmth and humour influenced by everything from punk to jazz to vintage library music.
