City And Colour - Bring Me Your Love

akin to The Beatles backing a duet between Jesus and Lady Di?

Album Review by Matt Gollock | 06 Mar 2008
Album title: Bring Me Your Love
Artist: City And Colour
Label: Hassle
With a promo CD that is the musical equivalent of Fort Knox – no copying, sharing or borrowing this bad boy – you'd think the contents were something akin to The Beatles backing a duet between Jesus and Lady Di. Think again. Words like 'inoffensive' and 'mildly distracting' spring to mind upon hearing City and Colour, probably the most damming indictment of music available. It doesn't even have the content to cause anger or hatred, though the absence of any kind of substance may start to drive you up the wall. Strummy guitar and wet vocals are the 'backbone' of the record, and occasionally there is the addition of harmonica / full band / lap steel. Some records are challenging for the right reasons; they push the boundaries of a genre or splice them in a truly original fashion. This is just a challenge to get through without wandering off to do something more exciting. Like fold laundry. [Matt Gollock]
