Cazals- What Of Our Future

Next to the likes of Digitalism and Klaxons, Cazals appear incongruous to the rest of the roster

Album title: What Of Our Future
Artist: Cazals
Label: Kitsuné
Release date: 12 May

With Kitsuné, you usually know what you’re going to get - a jaunty bit of disco-influenced foolishness - but What Of Our Future smacks of the French electronica label trying to broaden their horizons; really, if it aint broke don’t fix it. This rather mediocre piece of pop-punk does little over its 11 tracks. Opener New Boy In Town is a heartfelt piece of bubblegum that keeps your interest, but it’s not until the slightly miffed sound of ninth track Poor Innocent Boys that anything jumps out. Album closer Time of Our Lives is a pleasant piece of piano-driven angst that builds to crescendo, but fighting your way through the blandness to get to this point may kill the drama of it. Next to the likes of Digitalism and Klaxons, Cazals appear incongruous to the rest of the roster, and this is brought even more sharply into focus by the fact that it just isn’t that good.
