Calla - Collisions

Album title: Collisions
Artist: Calla
Label: Beggars Banquet
A veritable instruction manual on how to produce pared back guitar melodies, the depth of sound and complexity of lyrics weave sultry pictures as much as they tell stories of disappointment and failed potential. The songs drift through numerous shades of melancholy, and with titles like Play Dead, So Far, So What and Overshadowed it's little wonder. There are sparks of originality here with standout tracks Swagger and This Better Go As Planned and overall 'Collisions' is depressingly lovely from start to finish, it's just a pity that most of it sounds so very familiar already.
