Blank + Jones - The Logic Of Pleasure

Album Review by Michael Slevin | 23 Jul 2008
Album title: The Logic Of Pleasure
Artist: Blank + Jones
Label: Maelstrom
Release date: 28 Jul

Not many artists can boast about releasing their ninth studio album, but that’s exactly what Blank + Jones have just achieved. The German duo’s new album is a combination of laidback beats and bright pads, with bigbeat and breakbeats being inculcated into the trance sounds, not unlike Any Hunter. Appearances from guests of undoubted pedigree (including vocals from New Order’s Bernard Sumner and artwork from music journo Paul Morley) only serve to reassert The Logic of Pleasure's appeal. Soft female vocals and dark foreboding synth basslines are used to great effect, and most dance fans will see this as a breath of fresh air. It's not quite the messiah the genre so definitely needs, but it's certainly got the potential to turn things around.
