Benjy Ferree - Leaving The Nest

foot-stomping boogie

Album Review by Garry Thomson | 10 Feb 2007
Album title: Leaving The Nest
Artist: Benjy Ferree
Label: Domino
Benjy Ferree's sound is a melting pot of the finest old American folk, country and blues with a heap of Beatles' pop melodies thrown in to fill her up to the top. 'Private Honeymoon' waltzes along with a child-like Tom Waits quality while 'Dogkillers' is a foot-stomping piece of boogie straight out of the Mississippi. With Ferree having spent a considerable part of the last decade attempting to be an actor in Hollywood, it's no surprise that the majority of this album wouldn't sound out of place on the soundtrack to a quirky piece of black and white indie cinema. On this evidence, hopefully Ferree has left the acting far behind. [Garry Thomson]
