Beehoover - Heavy Zooo

Album Review by Chris Cusack | 25 Apr 2008
Album title: Heavy Zooo
Artist: Beehoover
Label: Exile on Maintstream
Release date: 19 May 08

First off, this is quite some noise for a two-piece. Definitely at their best when summoning enormous riffs from the ether, Beehoover have managed to deliver an album of considerable weight. Heavy Zooo barrels through walls of down-tuned rock racket, unabated, and makes for a compelling listen. While the quality of the songs isn't always high enough to hold the attention for the full course, at their best they cross axes with some of the most bullish British metal bands around at the moment and draw the occasional favourable comparison with the likes of Unsane. Track six, Spirit and Crown, sees things begin to wander off in a more experimental direction. This isn't always for the best as certain segments become more of an endurance than an enjoyable experience but fortunately the duo reign in their more frivolous instincts just enough and the album isn't marred overall.
