Album title: Hide, Run Away
Artist: BC Camplight
Label: One Little Indian
If you had asked me a year ago to imagine "BC Camplight", I would have muttered something about bonfire flickers and the forests of British Columbia. Ask me today, however, and perhaps I'll burst into song – a song with lightness and air, with lovesick choruses and sweet middle eights. Brian Christinzio has composed an album of effortless keyboard-driven indie pop: a sugar-kissed tryst with Ben Folds, Teenage Fanclub and Todd Rundgren. Couldn't You Tell sends me slipping onto the dance-floor, LA, LA, LA casts the night sky in baby blue, Parapaleejo nicks all of The Shins' best tricks. Christinzio's arrangements are full bodied and full band, often with twists of organ, glockenspiel or strings. And his voice, of course, like an orange ice lolly, a strawberry trifle, your best friend on the piano at the end of the bar. [Sean Michaels]
