Amusement Parks On Fire - Out Of The Angeles

Out Of The Angeles' is a Eurodisney of a record

Album Review by Ally Brown | 15 Jun 2006
Album title: Out Of The Angeles
Artist: Amusement Parks On Fire
Label: V2

Whatever happened to My Vitriol? They disappeared after 2001's 'Finelines', and Amusement Parks on Fire have since arrived to fill in the gap, if there was one. 'Out Of The Angeles' sounds as a late My Vitriol record might, but this is in fact young Michael Feeley and his crew's second album in little over a year. By stretching fist-pumping Foos bluster and bathing it in swathes of texture from different angles - the strings and flighty, indecipherable vocals of Sigur Ros, the nasal sweeps of MBV shoegazing, and other sprinkled post-rock Mogwaisms - 'Out Of The Angeles' is likely to be most enjoyable to those fanatical about such trend-setters, or those ignorant of them. To put it another way, Eurodisney's biggest fans are those who really love amusement park rides, and those who've never been to Florida: in such a way 'Out of the Angeles' is a Eurodisney of a record. [Ally Brown]

Out of the Angeles' is out on June 19.
