ACTRESS – Radical Frame
Radical Frame is a brilliant continuation of ACTRESS’ elastic experimentations
Here we are, 18 years into ACTRESS's mythical being. I remember hearing once that he performed, only to reveal a mannequin in the DJ booth, with him irl being up behind the dancefloor. Is it true? Who can say. Nearly ten years from his pickling AZD record, we’re watching evolution and focus. His fluid and fervent production now a staple expectation, these tracks on Radical Frame emerge from murky and hopping styles, whilst never taking off, remember?
We’re surrounded by contexts and frames, with the striking visuals from Anna van der Velde showing how we can begin to build our experience of this album as an imprisoned style, but then again whatever. Here, it’s relentless in reference and genre, like staring from the train window, the fantastical unexpected in listening to ACTRESS’ music has always shone bright. It’s like trying to keep up with that friend who goes at 100mph and journeys through R'n'B, house, cliched ambiences and deep vocals, eventually leaving us on a fade-out into an ocean’s silence.
Radical Frame is a brilliant continuation of ACTRESS’ elastic experimentations that we have come to expect, but we know they will never be as expected.
