A Muso's Top 10: Laeto

"The lust and jealousy makes for an oppressively creative sexual dynamic hitherto unforseen in a band of this ilk..."

Taking time out from the recording of the follow up to 2004's Zwoa, Laeto vocalist/guitarist Fraser dropped the Skinny a line with ten of the most worhty tunes to be heard bustin' his speakers. He also gave us an unprecedented insight into what awaits us with album number three...

"The new stuff is a bit darker, a bit more cynical, a lot more tech, a lot more progressive. All members of this band are in love with all other members of this band, the resulting lust and jealousy makes for an oppressively creative sexual dynamic hitherto unforseen in a band of this ilk, as will be evidenced on our forthcoming third album."

1. The Jesus Lizard - Puss / Nirvana - Oh The Guilt split single. - I loved Nirvana to death, and they turned me on to the Jesus Lizard, which is the nicest thing they could have ever done. The Jesus Lizard is in my top three bands ever I think. Anyway, the nirvana song was amazing, and Puss blew my face off.

2. Teenage Fanclub - The Concept - Teenage Faclub was my first favourite band, this single's great, the cover is great. 'Bandwagonesque' still stands up as a cracker.

3. Laeto - Fieldsettings/Car/low - The first time i heard this 7", I knew I had to play in Laeto. That's because I could hear my guitar and singing and remembered recording all the bits.

4. Soundgarden - Jesus Christ Pose - Blew my brain off. The closest band to a modern day Led Zeppelin I guess, and that's saying something.

5. Helmet - Unsung - Made my ears turn into legs. Big influence on our band.

6. Stone Roses - One Love - The Stone Roses are fucking magic. Why doesn't everyone rate One Love though? People apparently think it was a big disappointment or something. I thought it was amazing.

7. Autumn Rising - The Corpse Visions of our Patient - Autumn Rising are incredible. I haven't heard a band with as consistently high quality an output, and this single is no different. The 'Kraken EP' is the best thing I've heard by them, but it's an EP innit? EPs aren't singles.

8. My Bloody Valentine - Soon - Was this a single? It had a video so I guess so. Anyway, it's brilliant and it made me levitate when I heard it.

9. Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town - Everything about this is magical. The chord progression, the singing, the twin leads, the words. One of the all-time best songs by one of the all-time best rock bands.

10. Guns n Roses - Paradise City - I'm not a huge fan of irony, especially in rock music, so I'm not saying this with my tongue in my perfectly chiselled cheek. This band's first album was like a kick in the guts. Still as fresh as a daisy. The solo at the end rips hard.
