Scottish Albums of the Decade #13: Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out Of This Country

Feature by Ally Brown | 27 Nov 2009

Initially hampered by constant comparisons to Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura have picked up that baton and accelerated away. Established now as one of Scotland's best indie bands, this is probably their best album: Let's Get Out Of This Country was something of a breakthrough too, thanks in part to the irresistable first song Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken. New fans were hooked by Traceyanne Campbell's wryly melancholic vocals – "I drowned my sorrows, slept around, not in body, at least in mind" – bathed in sumptuous string arrangements and glitzy organ stomps. And to think we only gave it two Skinnies at the time.
