Scottish Alternative Music Awards: The 2019 Winners
The Vegan Leather, OK Button, Steg G and Zoe Graham were among the winners at this year's SAMAs
The tenth edition of the SAMAs took place this weekend at St Luke’s in Glasgow with live performances on the night from Franky’s Evil Party, One Nine and The Cosmic Dead.
The aim of the annual awards is to “recognise the best new Scottish music, shining a spotlight across an eclectic range of contemporary music genres”, and the seven awards handed out certainly covered an wide range of acts and artists
Among the winners were the Aberdeen-rooted OK Button, who picked up Best Electronic; Paisley art-pop quartet The Vegan Leather, who won Best Live Act; and up-and-coming West Lothian four-piece The Snuts took Best Rock/Alternative act. Handing out awards on the night were Vic Galloway, Chris McQueer, and various other music biz folk.
“This year’s SAMA’s were another huge celebration of Scottish music!” said Richy Muirhead, the SAMAs creative director. “It is fantastic to see the public get so involved and participate in the vote to determine the winners, we gathered over 12,500 votes in two days this year which is a new record – it’s great to see so many people engaging with the nominations, streaming the music, and discovering other artists involved. The seven winners are all very exciting artists with exciting futures ahead.”
