Feature by News Team | 23 Apr 2015

The longlist for the 2015 Scottish Album of the Year Award has been unveiled, with an eclectic mix of artists and bands from across Scottish music in the hunt for this year’s prize.

2014 SAY Award-winners Young Fathers are nominated once again – this time for their Mercury Prize-winning album DEAD – with Mogwai also nominated for the second time in as many years for last year’s Rave Tapes LP. Our readers’ album of 2014, Nobody Wants To Be Here And Nobody Wants To Leave by The Twilight Sad, also makes the list.

Garage rock duo Honeyblood, synth-pop pairing Happy Meals, electronic trio Errors and thrash-pop outfit PAWS all make the line-up for the fourth edition of the awards, while the twenty-strong list also features a host of more established names. The comeback albums from indie favourites Belle and Sebastian and Idlewild are both on the longlist, alongside the latest records from Withered Hand and King Creosote – the full longlist can be found below.

Announcing this year's longlist, Stewart Henderson of The Scottish Music Industry Association said: “With another great longlist to promote, The SAY Award is really coming into its own as one of the most unique and progressive music prizes in the UK." 2014 winners Young Fathers said: "Creating the best of anything is the result of a subjective decision but we’re thankful that there are people who think that of us, are willing to put their feelings on the line and say DEAD was a great album."

Each of the twenty albums will be streamed on the SAY Award website ahead of a three-day public vote from 25-27 May. This year’s ten-strong shortlist will be announced on 28 May; the 2015 award will be presented at the O2 ABC in Glasgow on 17 June.
