Record Store Day returns for another celebration of the unique culture of the independent music outlet, and we've put together this handy round-up of events in Manchester. Think we've missed something? Hit up will@theskinny.co.uk with the details...

Eastern Bloc

Stevenson Square, Northern Quarter, from 9am

Electronic music stockists extraordinaire, Eastern Bloc are gearing up for their tenth year supporting RSD, supplementing their usual array of expertly-sourced records with official RSD releases. Not only that, they're also promising a full 19 hours – NINETEEN HOURS – of music, with their sound system switched on at 9am and going right through til 4am. Expect funk, soul, Afro, hip-hop, disco, reggae, outernational, house, broken beats, jazz, Latin, techno , electronica, jungle, drum & bass, general weirdness and a whole lot more.

Manning the decks throughout the day is a veritable cavalcade of DJs and producers from the region. Ready for the full list? Deep breath. Ok, here we go: Hidden Spheres, Konny Kon, Samuel Kerridge, Acre, DJ BobaFatt, Rikki Humphrey, KERRIE, Tom Boogizm, Antidote, Space Afrika, Will Boyd, Means&3rd, Vendel, Karl Roscoe, Darryl Marsden, Battlestar Mancunia, Air Adam, Tom, Akaram, BLACK EYES, Eskiturks and Will T. Pre-tay impressive.

Soup Kitchen

Spear Street, Northern Quarter, 4pm, £3 OTD

Also celebrating the medium of physical media sales via an all-day show are the good folk at Soup Kitchen. We know what you're thinking: 'But that's not a record shop!' Nope, but it is an excellent purveyor of live music, and their RSD show is something of a tradition now. "We urge you to head to Piccadilly Records, Eastern Bloc Records and Beatin Rythm," they say. "Grab your limited press of choice and then head over to Soup Kitchen to catch who we are believe are some of the most exciting artists the region has to offer!"

With that in mind, they've gathered together a stellar line-up featuring ILL, Great Ytene, Peaness, The Showers, Kyotoya and Aaberg – and to top it all off, Robert Parkinson and friends will be DJing in the bar from 3pm. Oh, go on then... and the M4 Records pop-up shop will be there. Spoiled! We're spoiled!

Piccadilly Records

Oldham Street, Northern Quarter, from 8am

If you've been record shopping in Manchester before, chances are you've been to Piccadilly Records; it's long been a first port of call for vinyl fans thanks to its cross-genre stock and knowledgeable staff. This year the shop itself will be open from 8am with all the usual RSD specials, with some exciting collaborations to boot.

For starters, they've teamed up with Edge Street bar Common and local brewmeisters Cloudwater to bring you their brand new Record Store Day Session IPA (available via keg and in can form). Common will also be open from 8am, serving breakfast and drinks to RSD die-hards (with 10% off food and drink all day when you show your Piccadilly Records RSD receipt), and then there'll be live bands from 5pm: Wedding, Ménage à Trois and Former Bullies, joined by DJs from the shop itself... and maybe more to be announced. Oof!

Cottonopolis

Newton Street, Northern Quarter, from 11am

It's not just the record shops and music venues that are getting in on the action either – bar/eatery/nightspot Cottonopolis are also celebrating RSD with a full 15 hours of vinyl-only DJ sets, with an impressive roster starring the ever-eclectic Mr Scruff. Sets are also lined up from from Mukatsaku Records' Nik Weston, Wah Wah 45s' Bopperson, Diesler, Will Tramp, Planet Rock Records, Irfan Rainy, Andrea Trout and Stutter & Twitch, with music starting from 11am.

It's free entry too, and there's even a mini record fair planned from 11am-5pm, with Planet Rock manning the stalls and special discounts on Stutter & Twitch's exclusive 7" range. Not enough? Oh, ok: Mr Scruff's set entails a full hour of never-before-heard dub plates, freshly cut that very afternoon at the Brighter Sound & Birds Hit Records vinyl weekender workshop.

Soda

Stamford New Road, Altrincham, from 10am

For those a little further out in Greater Manchester, there's always the opportunity to stop by Altrincham's Soda, a multi-faceted emporium dealing in comics, card gaming, merch, confectionary and bubble tea. Oh, and records of course – this is their first year taking part in RSD, and they're planning to make a day of it.

Catch live sets from Educated Risk (launching their new single Closer) and Patrick Green Music, with The DJ Jay T spinning vinyl all day, while picking up the official RSD releases. They're also promising a special offer on all used records (buy four, get another free) – plenty of reasons to support your local record shop.

Endless Music

Bury Old Road, Prestwich, from 9am

Also off the beaten track is Endless Music, located in the Greater Manchester town of Prestwich (it's where Mark E. Smith's from, y'know). As trusted online sellers and longtime participants in RSD, they're also celebrating this year with a live performance from local singer-songwriter Jay Stansfield, who'll be performing cuts from albums such as LOVISMGobstopper and Birth & Death. Lovely stuff.
