QUICK – Barber's Song: Track Premiere

Feature by Music Team | 08 Feb 2017

Winners of Celtic Connections' Danny Kyle Award 2016, QUICK are set to launch their debut EP This I Know on Feb 25 via Holy Smokes Records. The Glasgow trio, made up of Alex Hynes (guitar and vocals), Willem Mckie (mandolin & vocals) and Emily Barr (vocals), came together in January 2016 incorporating progressive and intricate concepts played through traditional acoustic instrumentation, paired with a heartbeat of honest lyrics and the cleanest of harmonies.

While showcasing all three of QUICK's voices, tied together with tight picking from Hynes and Mckie, This I Know explores a range of the band's influences from bluegrass to indie-folk. The five-track EP features an acappella gospel number about Hyne's niece and a ballad about a barber.

"Barber’s Song is about a barber who plays humble but hides, unsuccessfully, his pride for being the social glue that holds his clientele together,” explains Hynes. “We get two perspectives in this song: his own and that of his customers. The customers, of course, see through his fake modesty, but endure and love him anyway for his genuine love of people and his love for what he does."

QUICK's This I Know EP is released on 25 Feb via Holy Smokes Records. QUICK launch the EP on the same night, rather aptly, at The Old Hairdresser's in Glasgow
