Following appearances from fellow Scots' Franz Ferdinand and CHVRCHES, who both played Portugal's NOS Alive last year, in case you missed the news at the end of last month, Glasgow post-rock royalty Mogwai are set to return to the Portuguese festival this summer following a previous turn in 2015.

With a near constant scent of pastel de nata and Vinho Verde in the air, the ‘Gwai – whose most recent studio album Every Country’s Sun was released in 2017 to critical acclaim – will play the first night of the festival. Joining The Cure, Robyn, Hot Chip, Sharon Van Etten, Loyle Carner and Jorja Smith, it's looking set to be an amazing opening night for NOS Alive's 13th year.

But Mogwai aren’t the only veteran Scots racking up the passport stamps this summer, as Bobby Gillespie’s Primal Scream are also heading to NOS Alive to get their rocks off on the Friday night. Following the release of their third compilation album, Maximum Rock’n’Roll: The Singles we’re sure you can expect to have more than just a good time.

Launching in 2007 as Oeiras Alive! on the stunning banks of the Tagus River – just a 20-minute drive to the heart of Lisbon – with a headline slot from The Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan and co are back for the 2019 edition. And just a couple of months after the release of Father of the Bride, you’ll also find Ezra Koenig’s Vampire Weekend at NOS Alive this year alongside Bon Iver, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, the recently resurrected Gossip, Cut Copy, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter H.E.R. and relative newcomers Pip Blom among others.

NOS Alive takes place in Lisbon, Portugal, 11-13 Jul; full festival tickets are priced at £139.26 incl. booking fee and are available here
