Michael Jackson to release new album

Gotcha. It’s not a new album per se, but a greatest hits package that the British public will decide the track listing for. A bit of overzealous sensationalism in a headline never hurt anybody though eh? I’m looking at you NME.com

In a common show of unity amongst a triumvirate of corporate titans, Sony BMG have teamed up with the geniuses behind GMTV and The Sun to present an opportunity for Michael Jackson fans to nominate the hits for an album due out at the end of August.

Although it’s being touted as “the first fan-driven selection of its kind,” we must first remind any goldfish at Sony that the Beastie Boys did exactly the same thing with their fan determined anthology release a few years ago.

But I digress; monkeys, bairns and carnival rides may have distracted us from the fact that Michael Jackson is the King Of Pop (unless of course you’re a Prince fan), but behold an album loaded with 18 hits to remind us - whittled down from a list of 50 to celebrate MJ’s forthcoming half century of moonwalking.

Cherry picking the tunes will no doubt prove a bastard for hardcore fans (see a list of the candidates you can select from below), but let The Skinny make it easier for you by disqualifying those dire tunes he recorded with Macca for a kick off. There are a few glaring ommissions too - no Liberian Girl - the shower would be a boring place without it. Cast your vote here
