LP Records have been helping music fans in Glasgow discover new music since opening in 2015, but now hope to reach out beyond the local vinyl market to create LP Radio, an online radio station and podcasts centred around discovering and sharing new music. LP Records describe their vision as a station “free from agenda, guidelines, and pretension. A radio station for music, debate, patter and community.”

Launching the project on Kickstarter today, the aim is to raise £4500 for a new computer, soundproofing the studio based in LP’s Glasgow store, upgrading equipment and paying the pricey music license fees. “This station is for music fans first and foremost,” says the Kickstarter statement. “Music will be the focal point of everything we do, with a primary but not all-encompassing spotlight on new releases, from major labels right down to local bands.”

The aim is to create a station with the capacity to run 24/7 and be available worldwide, or as LP Radio say, to be a “station grounded in the best place on Earth, Glasgow, but facing out to the rest of the world.”

Broadcasting from the studio above the record store on Park Road, Glasgow every day, LP Radio aim to feature rotating DJs, regular guests and interviews, and sessions with touring musicians. “The sessions will either be stripped back and hosted inside LP Records or full band studio sessions in which we will broadcast live and record video,” say LP.

This announcement comes hot on the heels of EH-FM radio launching in Edinburgh back in July. Here's to more community radio!
