Kate Bush all at sea in And Dream Of Sheep video

The lyrics for Kate Bush’s plaintive And Dream Of Sheep, from her 1985 album Hounds of Love, get a literal interpretation in the video for Bush’s updated version of the song, which acts as a warmup to Kate Bush and the K Fellowship: Before the Dawn, the forthcoming triple-album of live recordings from the singer's string of acclaimed concerts at Hammersmith Apollo in 2014.

The promo is beautifully simple. Shot from above in what looks to be one continuous take, we see Bush floating in an expanse of dark water while wearing a life-jacket with one flashing red light on the lapel and looking directly into the camera as she sings.

The video may look straightforward, but it was anything but. It required Bush to be in the water for three days of shooting, and after the first she contracted mild hypothermia. “She recovered after a day off and carried on filming,” a spokesperson for Bush told The Guardian. “Everyone agreed it has added to the authenticity of the performance.”

Bush spoke about her anxiety of performing live for her Hammersmith Apollo shows on 6 Music yesterday. "I naturally tend to race ahead in my mind," Bush told interviewer Matt Everett. "I'm always thinking about situations and running them through. I think, maybe it's that kind of primeval thing where you're trying to think, 'Can I get to that tree before the tiger gets me?' 

"So my head is always moving ahead, just trying to get to the conclusion of whatever this journey is. And once we started running the show I had to be absolutely in that moment. But I was so terrified that if my mind wandered off that when I came back I wouldn't remember where I was."
